Sunshine Coast mayor shaves head for gutsy Team Adem

SUNSHINE Coast ,mayor Mark Jamieson is hoping bald is beautiful after lopping off his locks as part of the World’s Greatest Shave.

“We’ve all been touched by this disease in one way or another – and it’s a privilege to be able to help raise some funds to help try and find a cure,” Mr Jamieson said.

“My grade 4 teacher told me we have a million hairs on our head – so I figured if I could raise one cent for each strand that would be $10,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“The community met my challenge; and now I’m the mayor – whose head is bare. “I’m proud to have been part of Team Adem which was started by that inspirational Sunshine Coaster Adem Crosby who lost his battle with the disease less than a year ago. “This was an incredibly personal mission of Adem who had been diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 – and raised more than $260,000 before his death.

“What sticks with me about that meeting were Adem’s humility, sincerity and complete lack of self-pity. “It’s my great honour to be a member of the team which continued his legacy this year by raising $100,000 – by far the most in Australia.

“Special mention needs to go to Adem’s 14-year-old sister Miranda who helped raise more than $15,000 – her brother would be so very proud.”
