After 2 surgeries, 15 rounds of chemotherapy, 25 daily radiation sessions and many hospital visits, I am happy to announce I have now finished my 8 months of Breast Cancer treatment. Yesterday I said goodbye to my radiation machine “Fraser” and like many others before me proudly left my hand print on the wall of inspiration at Oceania Oncology. These hand prints are a significant milestone for many cancer warriors who have completed their treatment and I am proud to have mine amongst them. I will now commence a targeted medication for the next 5 years and will have regular check ups with my specialists.
I would like to thank all my brilliant Doctors & Cancer Care Nurses for taking such wonderful care of me. As always, big thanks to my family, friends & Team Adem supporters for all your well wishes.
Love Lu x

Lu and Brent on behalf of Team Adem recently donated two new Samsung tablets to the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland Support Services team. The tablets will assist staff to make an even greater difference out in the community. Support staff often travel to several different locations in a typical day, whether to visit a patient in their home, to the hospital, or even to another city to host a seminar or support group. The tablets mean they can now stay connected on the road, saving them valuable time once they’re back in the office. Thanks again to our supporters for helping us help others.
A huge congratulation and thank you to Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service for their amazing Blood Donation Challenge result. Incredibly, 280 lifesaving donations and 840 lives saved during September & October – what an incredible effort!!
Team Adem would like to thank all those who participated in the challenge and ask that you continue to roll up your sleeves this festive season. The winning Dept/Ward will be announced at the SCHHS Awards presentations in late November.

Team Adem’s 2015 Trivia Night Fundraiser held on Saturday, November 7th was another resounding success. The Hollywood themed event was packed with movie stars from yesteryear through to today. The Great Gatsby, Flintstones, Smurfs, The Blues Brothers, Grease, Despicable Me, 007, Pirates of the Carribean and those Vikings!!! – what a wild bunch. Even the Four Corners crew found them a handful to interview. Congrats to the Trivia Champions ….007 – great effort guys. Special Thanks to hosts Cathy Quinn, Dave Thomson, Anna McMahon (Dick & Jane) not forgetting Craig, our IT Guru who did a superb job. Thank you to our wonderful caterers, judges, our fantastic hardworking Team Adem Committee members and their beautiful families who helped on the day. To all our sponsors and businesses that donated items…thank you. Finally, to all our Team Adem supporters thank you for continuing to help us help others.
Whilst visiting the hospital on Monday (5th) for another round of Lu’s weekly treatment, Lu & I donated 50 digital thermometers to the Cancer Care Unit at Nambour General Hospital – on behalf of Team Adem. The thermometers will be given to patients who are undergoing cancer treatment and don’t have a thermometer at home. Chemotherapy can have a major impact on a patient’s immune system and a temperature rise can be a sign of infection, which can become life-threatening within hours. Any patient undergoing cancer treatment and has a temperature rise of 38 or more is advised to get to a hospital emergency department as soon as possible.
Pictured with me are Oncology nurses Sally (left) & Alana who with all the staff do a wonderful job in caring for patients on a daily basis.
We are extremely excited to announce that the Team Adem Blood Donation Community has passed our ambitious 2015 goal in just 9 months…3 months sooner than expected! We would like to sincerely thank our blood donors who continue to roll up their sleeves in support of Team Adem and those who require lifesaving blood products. We also acknowledge the wonderful support we receive from supporters who are ineligible to donate themselves but inspire family, friends & work colleagues to give the gift of life.Just how many lives can we save in 2015? We believe with continued support we will pass 12 000 by the end of the year. Thanks again everyone – Together we are all making a profound difference to the lives of many Australians each and every day.
